Privacy Policy
Prop Firm Authority (“we,” “us,” or “our”) publishes independent reviews, comparisons, and reference material about proprietary trading firms, including futures, forex, and crypto prop firms. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through propfirmauthority.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, and the choices available to you. It applies only to the Site. The prop firms we review operate their own websites, checkout pages, and customer portals under their own privacy policies, and we do not control or speak for them.
Summary in plain language
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We never ask for your brokerage or prop firm passwords, API keys, or two-factor authentication codes.
- We use cookies for site operation, anonymous analytics, and — only if you accept them — advertising and affiliate measurement.
- Where the law requires it, you can request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal data.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account and contact details — name, email address, and password (stored as a one-way hash) if you create a member account or subscribe to a newsletter.
- Trading journal data — if you use our free Trading Journal tool, the entries, trade ideas, and performance data you choose to enter. Entries stay in our database so they can sync to your account; you can delete individual entries or your entire journal at any time.
- Quiz and tool results — answers you submit to the Firm Quiz or any of our calculators, used to personalise results.
- Messages — if you contact us through a form or by email, the contents of that message and your email address.
Information collected automatically
- Log data — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and approximate location derived from IP. This is standard web-server logging and helps us keep the Site secure.
- Device identifiers — the Trading Journal on our Site can be tied to your browser and device so your entries appear on the device you use. This identifier is separate from anything stored in a cookie you can easily clear.
- Cookies and local storage — see “Cookies” below.
Information from third parties
When you follow a link from the Site to a prop firm’s site and buy an evaluation, the prop firm — not us — collects your payment, identity verification documents, and trading data. We may receive limited information from those companies about whether a referral converted, but we never receive your payment card details, identity documents, or trading account credentials.
How we use information
- To operate the Site, deliver accounts, and run the tools and Trading Journal you request.
- To send newsletters or product updates only where you have consented; every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- To measure which pages and reviews are useful, so we can improve accuracy and coverage.
- To detect fraud, spam, and abuse, and to enforce our Terms & Conditions.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Disclosure obligations.
We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not build behavioural profiles from your browsing across other websites.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, we rely on the following bases: contract for anything needed to provide an account or tool you asked for; legitimate interests for analytics, security, and improving our content, balanced against your rights; consent for non-essential cookies and marketing email, which you may withdraw at any time; and legal obligation where retention is required by law.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use a limited set of cookies:
| Category | Purpose | Typical examples |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Security, login sessions, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choice. These cannot be switched off. | WordPress login cookies, cookie-consent flag |
| Analytics | Anonymous measurement of page views and scroll depth. | Aggregated traffic and engagement counts |
| Affiliate measurement | Confirming that a click on a “Get Started” button led to a sale, so we can be paid fairly and report honestly. | First-party click identifier we set before you leave our Site |
| Advertising (opt-in) | Showing more relevant promotions and measuring their performance. Only active if you accept. | Ad network cookies |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can change your choices at any time via the cookie banner or the “Privacy” link in our footer. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break sign-in and the Trading Journal.
Advertising and affiliate relationships
The Site contains outbound links to prop firms, many of which are affiliate links. If you buy an evaluation through one of those links, the firm may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes the price you pay, and it never changes how we rate a firm. Our editorial ranking, scoring, and inclusion decisions are made independently of any commission. Full details are in our Disclosure.
We aim to keep advertising to a minimum. Where advertising appears, it is clearly labelled and kept separate from our scoring and comparison tables.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our instructions — hosting, analytics, email delivery, error monitoring, and affiliate tracking — and, where you use a paid feature, the prop firm whose product you purchase. We also disclose data where required by law or valid legal process. We will not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept for as long as your account is active, plus up to 24 months afterwards for support and fraud prevention. Analytics logs are kept for up to 14 months. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we do not email you again after you opt out. Trading Journal entries are kept until you delete them. Where law requires longer retention, we keep data only for that period.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
- have data erased when we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it;
- restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing;
- complain to your data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email our contact page. We respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, and we will never ask for your trading or account passwords.
Children
The Site is not directed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party links
The Site links to external sites, including prop firm websites, social platforms, and analytics providers. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the content or data practices of sites we do not operate.
International transfers
Some of our service providers operate outside the UK, EEA, and your country of residence. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Security
We use HTTPS in transit, hashed passwords, role-based access controls, and regular patching. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep risk low and to notify affected users and regulators without undue delay if a breach occurs.
Your choices
- Manage cookies through your browser or our cookie banner.
- Unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in any email, or by contacting us.
- Delete your Trading Journal entries, or your whole account, at any time.
- Leave an “unsubscribe” request on review comments or forum-style content, if you post any.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the Site or the law. The “last updated” date at the top always shows the current version, and for material changes we will post a notice on the Site and, where appropriate, email registered users.
Contact us
Questions about this policy, or about our handling of personal data, can be sent via the Contact page and will be directed to the appropriate member of our team. See also our Terms & Conditions and Disclosure.
