How to Use This Journal

This journal keeps every trade you log in one place and turns them into numbers you can act on. Start by setting up an account and your risk limits, then log trades as you take them. Everything else — equity curve, drawdown, consistency and the calendar — updates itself.

1 Set up your account first

Risk parameters are per account, and every calculation on the page depends on them.

  • Click Accounts (top right) and add your funded account with its starting balance.
  • In the sidebar set Max Drawdown Limit and Daily Loss Limit to your firm's real numbers.
  • Add more than one account if you trade several — the switcher at the top left moves between them.
The Drawdown Floor bar shows how much room you have left before you breach.

2 Log a trade

Click New Trade. The form fills in the current date and time for you.

  • Enter the ticker (NQ, EURUSD, BTC…) and pick Long or Short.
  • Choose your setup — this is what builds the P&L-by-setup chart.
  • Enter entry and exit. The risk, gross, net and R-multiple update live as you type.
  • Leave Exit Price blank while a trade is still open — save it now and update it when you close.
  • Use Notes for your post-trade review. This is the part you will actually re-read later.

3 Ticks, points and contracts

The R-multiple and risk figures depend on getting the unit value right.

  • Tick / Point Value is the dollar value of one tick or point per unit at your size. Futures: check your contract spec. Forex: the pip value.
  • Set Contracts / Lots / Coins to your actual position size.
  • Overwrite Net P&L only when your broker's figure differs — it keeps blank on auto.
Not sure? Log a trade you have already closed and compare the auto Net P&L with your statement.

4 Read the Analytics tab

The KPI row at the top of every tab, in order:

  • Account Balance — starting balance plus everything you have logged.
  • Net P&L and Win Rate (with your W / L / break-even split).
  • Profit Factor — gross win divided by gross loss. Above 1 is profitable.
  • Expectancy — average $ per trade, and the average R you are actually earning.
  • Avg R:R (planned) — target size against stop size, before the trade is taken.
  • Max Drawdown — worst fall from peak, against your floor.

5 What the three charts show

  • Equity Curve vs Drawdown Floor — your balance against the level at which you breach.
  • P&L by Setup — which strategies actually make you money.
  • Performance by Pre-Trade Mindset — how your results change with the state you logged before the trade.
Charts need at least a couple of closed trades before they mean anything.

6 Discipline score and the consistency rule

Two different things, shown in two different columns — they are easy to confuse.

  • Discipline Score (1–5) — your own rating, set on each trade in the form. It appears in Trade History as Disc. and tells you how well you stuck to your rules.
  • Consistency rule — set Consistency Rule Max (%) in the sidebar to your firm's limit (commonly 30–50%). The Consistency column then flags whether your trading breaches it.
A firm can fail you on the consistency rule even when every individual trade was profitable.

7 Trade History and the calendar

  • History — filter by account, setup or date. Click any row to reopen it; edit or delete from there.
  • Calendar — each day shows that day's P&L; click a day for the trades behind it.
  • Export CSV (sidebar) — download everything for a spreadsheet or your broker comparison.
Where your data lives

Your trades are saved on this website's server, in a database table — not in your browser. What your browser keeps is a single random ID that acts as the key to your rows. So the data is on the server; what lives only in your browser is the key that finds it.

TopicWhat happens
Where it is storedOn this site's server, in the database. It is safe if you clear your browser, reinstall Windows, or change device.
LoginThere is none. Your browser's key is recognised automatically.
Different browser or deviceOpens an empty journal, because that browser has a different key. Your existing trades are still on the server — they are simply not linked to this new browser.
Clearing site dataDeletes the key from your browser, so the journal looks empty. Your rows stay on the server, but with no key to find them there is no way back to them.
Private / incognito windowA separate journal. Close it and the entries made there are unreachable.
Export CSVStill worth doing regularly — it is the only copy you can keep somewhere other than this server.
